Why We Left The UK
These are the main reasons we decided to leave the UK.
01 | The UK was too expensive
We love the UK for many reasons, it’s our home country, it is where we were raised and it is where we hold most of our most cherished memories. In many ways, it is a shame we had to leave. We almost felt forced out, we didn’t feel we had much choice.
Once we had graduated from university and had our lovely Isaac, we worked so hard to get high paying jobs, buy our first home and to lead by example, living the traditional fairytale British family life.
We bought the car, the house and provided everything we could to our children but no matter how hard we worked and how much we saved, it felt there was always something that would come up and snatch your savings away from you.
We were hardly seeing our children and our monthly bills were just creeping up and up. It is only getting worse too. We were left with very little each month and we just knew there had to be a different way of living because this could not continue. It got to the point where we were losing money each month and the debts were spiralling out of control.
02 | We saw an opportunity
Life in the UK was becoming too stressful and each day was a challenge. We had to fight to keep our family together. Debts and financial difficulties were the cause of most arguments and we were just losing faith in the country we loved.
We knew we had to do something about it, we had to find a way to escape. We were very lucky to get on the property ladder. We were some of the last people accepted for the 5% deoposit scheme. We also managed to secure our home under-value, yes it needed a lot of work but we knew there was potential.
3 years later, we had renovated the property and substantially increased it’s value. We decided to sell up, pay off our debts and escape the chaos of UK living. We are still unsure where we will end up but we know that returning to the UK for good is the last option on our list. We feel there is very little for us there now.
03 | Our children's future
Crime is at an all-time high in the UK, university fees are outrageous, job opportuntiies are limited and overall, we just felt that the UK was becoming a worrying place to raise children.
Not only were we worried about the influences around them, but we also had a lack of time to spend with them to teach them the right ways as we were working so hard for a low standard of living.
Since leaving the UK, our children have flourished! Their development has improved drastically and it is lovely to see that our decision of leaving the UK seems to have paid off so far!
OTHER REASONS
We could write at length about the reasons we left the UK but to be honest, if you are living in the UK now and from a working class or even middle class background, you probably know for yourself that it isn’t the place it once was.
